Symptoms Of A Great National Malaise

There is a great malaise that is prevalent throughout America. It's growing deeper and stronger with each passing day. There are some of us who recognize this and are awake. Unfortunately, many others are ignorant and apathetic. This sickness is a spiritual and intellectual disease. Take a look around. On any given day you will find news stories filled with examples of the depravity and licentiousness that eat away at the soul of our republic.

This past week the voters of Ohio came to the polls to approve Issue 1 which moved the line for a legal abortion from 21 weeks and six days to 40 weeks. There are eight million registered voters in Ohio but only slightly more than two million that actually cast ballots. Thus, only one in four registered Ohio voters decided for the entire state. The proponents put this on the ballot on an off-election year rather than next year for a presidential election for obvious reasons. One cannot blame them for being shrewd and taking advantage of voter apathy.

Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are the most memorable words from the Declaration of Independence. What happens when we devalue life as a nation? Have we come to the point where we cannot see the unborn life in a womb as a human being? If we can't see unborn life then what other forms of life can we not see?

It was merely 78 years ago that World War II ended and the cries of "Never Forget" and "Never Again" rang loudly in the horrific aftermath of the Holocaust. Yet, now, reminiscent of the 1930's, we see masses of people in the streets and on college campuses chanting in a bloody rage, "Death to Jews." The heated rise of anti-semitism is alarming and yet many whitewash it and downplay it as justified as they support Palestinian terrorists that brutally and barbarically murdered 1400 innocent Jews.

The moral and intellectual gymnastics that are needed to equate Israel defending itself with a band of barbaric terrorists who murdered Jews in cold-blood is mind-boggling. It would be as if to compare a couple that lost their lives in a car accident to be no different than a couple brutally murdered at their house by an intruder. A rational person can morally and intellectual decipher a distinction between the two events. However, rational thought and moral clarity have become less common in a nation and world that moves further away from God.

We have devolved into a moral nihilism. A murky, muddy black hole. What is right is now wrong and what is wrong is now right. There is a perpetual gray. The symptoms we see prevalent in America today are tied together and form a much greater disease. It's a disease of the heart, soul, and mind. It's a moral decay and rot. It's the disease very few want to talk about. Yet, it is the answer to all of this malaise.

A nation that has no moral and intellectual clarity lacks God and a foundation to solidify it. America has become less and less God-fearing and God-centered and the results have been a society that lacks any sense of morals and standards.

There is a growing number of people who are suicidal and strung out on drugs. It has become one of the symptoms of this great national malaise. Most of those people are unmoored and detached from life. They elicit a plethora of emotions - despair, hopelessness, apathy, deep ambivalence, feelings of emptiness - and are disrupted from being motivated. They lack a purpose in life.

Life without any spiritual solace is unendurable and self-destructive. Without God and a foundation in moral and intellectual clarity you are adrift aimlessly in a sea of loneliness and despair. Without a purpose or goals you lack hope. You become apathetic. You can't ever see the light through darkness.

There has to be a unifying story. America has a rich history and foundation in God. Woke ideology is destroying whatever moral fiber remains in America. It is directly aimed at the younger generation to further the destruction of America and American ideals. We cannot fight this woke ideology if we can't defend God and our Founding Fathers that it seeks to eliminate entirely from American society.

The conversation that is needed in America is about a spiritual awakening. The only way America ends this malaise is by returning back to God. Are we so far past the point where we cannot right this republic?

George Washington may have been as prophetic as anyone in his Inaugural Address in 1789.

"The propitious smiles of heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right which heaven itself has ordained."
