Life, Liberty, And The Pursuit Of Happiness

Image
Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. Three very unique words intricately woven into The Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson didn't just pull these words out of thin air. He had a distinct purpose in choosing these particular words. It is important to note that these "unalienable rights" are not given to us by government but are endowed by God, our Creator. Our republic was established by our founding fathers to allow each individual to live life in freedom and pursue happiness in whatever ways they saw fit. Unfortunately, over time, we have seen these particular unalienable rights infringed upon more and more by a growing government interference in our lives. There is a certain segment of our republic who don't believe in life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. They believe in death, tyranny, and the pursuit of misery. Instead of freedom and liberty they aim for chaos, anarchy, fascism, socialism, and communism. Make no mistake, there is an i...

When Is Enough, Enough?

Image
So politicians sold their constituents a bill of lies to get elected again. Stop the presses, I know. Same old, same old. That is the normal reaction by most people in our republic. The question of the day is, when is enough, enough? In case you hadn't heard, seven Republican senators voted against a "Clean Repeal" of Obamacare on Wednesday in the United States Senate. Six of the seven did a flip-flop on repealing the imploding fiasco that is Obamacare. Those six senators are Sen. John McCain of Arizona, Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio, Sen. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee, Sen. Dean Heller of Nevada, Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, and Sen. Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia. The seventh senator was Sen. Susan Collins of Maine. She voted against repeal of Obamacare back in 2015 as well. Here are the strong and eloquent words of Sen. John McCain back in 2015: https://www.mccain.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/2015/12/floor-statement-by-senator-john-mccain-supporting-obamacare...

The Whitewashing Of History

Image
Jefferson Davis and Robert E Lee might be a bit miffed if they were alive today. The City of New Orleans has decided to remove their statues. Why you ask? The city officials see these statues not as historical markers from the Civil War, but as markers to slavery and racism. Mayor Mitch Landrieu said: "We have not erased history. We are becoming part of the city's history by righting the wrong image these monuments represent and crafting a better, more complete future for all our children and for future generations." But are they crafting a better and more complete future? Aren't they erasing and whitewashing an era in American history that needs to be remembered and learned from? So what is history? Simply stated, history is the study and record of past events. It carries no prejudices. It is a complete compilation of facts, figures, and people who lived before us. History should be purely objective. Unfortunately, depending on who is writing the history bo...

The Murky Swamp Of Washington

Image
When voters from "Fly Over Country" came out of the woodwork last November to cast a ballot for Donald Trump and a change of course, little did they realize how murky and dangerous the swamp in Washington DC really was. They knew that Mr. Trump would more than likely hit some fierce opposition from the Democrats and maybe some of the establishment Republicans would bellow a bit but nobody could forsee this mess we are now wading through. It has become high political theatre and the media has kept it fully charged and continued to stoke the flames of discord and resistance. Through all the drama one thing is perfectly clear. The Democrats have been effective in stalling and obstructing any legislation to change course. With a special counsel now being named to head up an independent review and investigation into the Russian hacking and collusion story, the Democrats have bought themselves more time to obstruct and stall. We are headed into summertime and the real chanc...

A Broken People And A Broken System

Image
One would be hard pressed to find a time in our brief history of existence where our republic was in greater danger of being destroyed. Yes, you could definitely argue that during the Civil War era our country was close to coming apart at the seams. That is a fair argument and the only one that can be cited and compared to our current precarious situation in which we sit. In a strange way, we are in a new civil war. An ideological civil war pitting self-government and self-reliance against the tyranny of a massive out-of-control central government. The American people have become slaves to the federal government. They have grown more and more dependent on the government taking care of them from the cradle to the grave. But this isn't what our founding fathers fought so hard to build. They fought to escape the chains of tyranny and oppression and establish a republic built on everyone having a right to pursue life, liberty, and happiness in whichever way they saw fit. Unfortuna...

What Happened To Easter?

Image
So what happened to Easter? I know to many that might seem like a strange question. Easter arrives every spring and it is still celebrated by people throughout the world. But Easter is not what it used to be. I remember a different world than the one in which we reside today. The glow of the sun filtering through a full church Easter Sunday morning as we fellowship and worship the glory of Christ rising from the grave to defeat sin. A sunrise breakfast afterwards to celebrate with our friends and family as we rejoice in the spirit of renewal. Easter was a special holiday and ran a close second to Christmas. So where did that spirit go? My mind wanders constantly these days. I guess I am a traditionalist by most standards. I wake up most mornings and don't recognize this country and our world anymore. My memories run deep to a simpler day and age. Visions of my grandparents run through my head. Their faces and words ring louder with each passing year. I long for that yesteryear...

An Intricate Russian Game Or Something More Sinister?

Image
Most magicians will tell you that the real key to being successful is getting people to look one way long enough so you can use your sleight of hand to pull off your magic act. They will tell you that it is extremely important to control and direct your audience by capturing their attention and fostering a genuine interest. Barack Obama and the Democrats seem to have taken a page or two from the magician playbook. Over the last few months, you would be hard pressed not to have heard about the Russians hacking and meddling in the election. It seems everywhere you look these days there is another news story that continues to keep the American people focused on the Russians and their supposed ties to the Trump administration. It definitely makes for exciting and exhilarating news. But like a magic act, the real story is not where the magician is directing your attention, rather it is behind the scenes and in the darkness where the truth lies. For all the hype and media buzz, the trut...
