Why Do Progressives Oppose Choice?

A good friend of mine sent me a link to a piece the other day and it made me think. In the piece it mentioned school choice. I began to think about choice in a variety of major issues and it became clear to me that progressives oppose choice in everything except in the case of abortion. From school choice and vouchers, healthcare, guns and the right to carry, and even in everyday life and what a person eats and drinks, the progressive crowd is against choice. I wondered why that is. I then thought further and believe it's because choice is empowering. Progressives believe in controlling people from the cradle to the grave, if they allow your mother to keep you and give birth to you in the first place. So let's look at a few major issues and highlight this a bit more.

The Founding Fathers were very clear in writing the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution. "The right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." It is straightforward. No ambiguity exists in this wording. In the Founders' view, it was a natural right, given by God and not to be impaired by government. Yet progressives consistently and fervently call the Constitution a "living breathing document" and diligently work to impair and infringe on that right. They claim that more guns leads to more violence and thus they need to be reduced in order to bring crime rates down and make our republic safer. The facts and data say otherwise. Here is a link to an article from The Washington Times from July 2015:

In cities like Chicago, Illinois, the murder rate is through the roof despite having some of the most restrictive gun control laws in the nation. Guns don't kill, people do. And a more armed and secure home means criminals will be less likely to break in and kill for fear they may lose their life in doing so. There is power in choosing to be armed and our Founding Fathers knew that.

In the area of education you also find progressives dead set against choice. They don't think parents should have the choice and free-will to decide where to have their children educated. They believe the public schools are the best place and that government is the ultimate source in ensuring a proper education. By education though they mean indoctrination. What school choice and voucher programs do is allow parents to send their children to schools that have a higher standard of learning and to build a better future for their kids. Why would anyone with a heart be opposed to that? Choice equals opportunity. Here is a link to an article from The Daily Signal from back in 2015:

As we have seen with Obamacare and the difficulty in trying to uproot it, the progressive movement wants no part in a free-market healthcare system. Their ultimate goal is a government-run single-payer system that denies people choice. Much like Canada or the U.K., they want the patients locked in and at the mercy of a government healthcare panel that decides who is worth treating and who is deemed expendable. One need look no further than the case of Charlie Gard just a few months ago to see why choice matters. Here is a link to the story in case you hadn't heard of it:

Choice equals opportunity. Choice equals power. Choice equals freedom. Healthcare is no different. Choice and a free-market system would bring prices down and reconnect the patients with the products. Here is a link to a piece from the Federalist from March 2017:

When it comes to your everyday life and how you choose to live, it has become obvious the progressive crowd wants to control everything. They feel you aren't intelligent enough or savvy enough to make decisions on how you choose to live. From taxing cigarettes to soda, they are trying to make people quit smoking and drinking items that may be unhealthy. Our Founding Fathers vision and fight was against just that kind of control. Our founders wanted each person to be guaranteed life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That pursuit of happiness was up to each individual to decide and make those choices. They also would live with the consequences of those choices as well. That is free-will. That is self-reliance. However, progressives don't believe in free-will and self-reliance. They are the nannies who wish to tell you what you can and can't do. Sounds like the chains of tyranny that we had escaped from, doesn't it?

When you limit choice you limit freedom and liberty. That is ultimately why progressives oppose choice. They don't believe in life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. They believe in death, tyranny, and the pursuit of misery. Choice is empowering. Choice equals opportunity. Choice equals freedom and liberty. Choice equals self-reliance. Progressives oppose choice because they know most people won't choose socialism and communism. They have to force people into it and try and candy-coat it to make it palatable. The truth is right before your eyes if you really think about it. Think about choice in a variety of topics and think about why progressives oppose choice in all those things. Considering the trend of limiting free speech and choices in our republic you might want to arm yourself with facts and truth and engage your progressive friends in a healthy debate on choice. Hopefully, this piece will aid in that debate.
