Why We Need To Reconnect With Our Past

Image
"One of the signs of a great society is the diligence with which it passes culture from one generation to the next. This culture is the embodiment of everything the people of that society hold dear: it's religious faith, it's heroes...when one generation no longer esteems it's own heritage and fails to pass the torch to its children, it is saying in essence that the very foundational principles and experiences that make the society what it is are no longer valid. This leaves that generation without any sense of definition or direction, making them the fulfillment of Karl Marx's dictum, 'A people without a heritage are easily persuaded.' What is required when this happens and the society has lost its way, is for leaders to arise who have not forgotten the discarded legacy and who love it with all their hearts. They can then become the voice of that lost generation, wooing an errant generation back to the faith of their fathers, back to the ancient foundatio...

The Inconsistency Of The Left

Image
In the midst of a renewed debate on gun-control and the Second Amendment a truth has crystallized before our very eyes. That truth is the Left is rife with inconsistencies in their arguments and ideological beliefs. That may not come as a shock to some but it is worth highlighting nonetheless. In the current assault by liberals on the right to bear arms they argue that it is for the collective good and safety of our children to limit who can possess a gun. They argue that collective rights supersede individual rights when it comes to the Second Amendment. However, when it comes to the abortion debate they make the complete opposite argument. They always claim it is a woman's right to choose and her individual rights are of the utmost importance. Herein lies the real crux of the matter. The Second Amendment is not ambiguous in any way. It states, "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, sh...

Why Do Progressives Oppose Choice?

Image
A good friend of mine sent me a link to a piece the other day and it made me think. In the piece it mentioned school choice. I began to think about choice in a variety of major issues and it became clear to me that progressives oppose choice in everything except in the case of abortion. From school choice and vouchers, healthcare, guns and the right to carry, and even in everyday life and what a person eats and drinks, the progressive crowd is against choice. I wondered why that is. I then thought further and believe it's because choice is empowering. Progressives believe in controlling people from the cradle to the grave, if they allow your mother to keep you and give birth to you in the first place. So let's look at a few major issues and highlight this a bit more. The Founding Fathers were very clear in writing the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution. "The right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." It is straightforwa...

The Real Essence Of Thanksgiving

Image
Thanksgiving is filled with amazing aromas that trigger memories of days gone by. Remembering those childhood days at my grandparents and the sights and sounds of a bustling kitchen. The smell of the turkey roasting in the oven as it mixes with the smells of the cranberries, mashed potatoes, carrots, fruit salad, and pumpkin pie. The sound of laughter and banter from aunts and uncles, parents, grandparents, and cousins. Thanksgiving Day is truly a uniquely American holiday that combines food and drink with family and friends. We all get lost in the smells, sights, and sounds of the day but most of us fail to grasp the real essence of Thanksgiving. Well beyond the tastes of food and the football games there lies a core centerpiece to Thanksgiving. That centerpiece is celebrating the fruits of your labor for the year past and giving thanks to God for all of the rich blessings that have been bestowed on us. The core values of hard work and self-determination make the bountiful har...

The Liberal Vision For America

Image
All of a sudden, there was a loud knock on the door. "Mrs. Kohler? It is the Education Ministry." Mrs. Kohler had been dreading this day. Her son, Timmy, turned three years old today. In another day, another time, in a more free America, this would have been a happy day filled with cake, balloons, and presents to celebrate his birthday. But today, she woke up sick to her stomach. A visceral pain so deep inside her, she thought she was dying. She thought she might as well be dying. The Education Ministry was at her door to take Timmy away. "Mrs. Kohler, please open this door!" She wanted to run away and hide. But where? There were too many people who would turn her in. Oh, how this country had changed. She had always supported the Democrat Party. She now regretted it. If only she had listened to the people who had warned everyone about heading into tyranny. Too late now, she thought, as she opened her door. "You do know why we are here, don't you?" ...

The Three Crusaders

Image
‘You in the West,’ said an Hungarian poet, ‘have a special duty because you are free. That freedom is both a blessing and a burden. For it makes you spiritually responsible for the whole of humanity.’ He was right. For if we do not keep alive the flame of freedom that flame will go out, and every noble ideal will die with it. It is not by force of weapons but by force of ideas that we seek to spread liberty to the worlds oppressed.                     Margaret Thatcher ~ 1983 God has a way of placing special people in our lives, both in our personal lives and on the world stage. Throughout history, there have been numerous people who have been truly special leaders and statesmen. It is not unusual to find one in a particular decade of history. If you manage to get two such unique statesmen in one decade, count it a blessing. But it is quite rare indeed, when you get three such individuals on the world stage at the same time. The...

Memorial Day: Honoring Our Brave

Image
Memorial Day is a special day to remember and honor those brave soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice, so all of us could continue to live in freedom and liberty. From Normandy to Vietnam to Korea to Iwo Jima and numerous other battlefields throughout the world, our finest soldiers fought against the evils of fascism and communism to help preserve our security and give others the hope of living in freedom. Freedom isn't free my friends, and it comes with a price. The soldiers we honor today, hopefully remind us of that, as our republic continues to bend and crack in these tumultuous times. As you embark on celebrating this holiday, I would ask you to take a few moments to honor and remember these brave men and women, and thank God that such people lived. Without these folks, our republic may have succumbed to fascism or communism. The battles we have yet had to fight, are on the horizon, and they loom large. We will need to summon that same honor and courage and duty to fig...

Israel: Our Vital Friend In The Middle East

Image
On May 14th, 1948, Israel became a country. It is roughly the size of New Jersey with about eight million people. It sits precariously among several Arab and Muslim dominated countries. It is a parliamentary democracy and remains the sole democracy in the Middle East. They have consistently sided with the United States and have been a staunch ally from the start. In recent years, that relationship between America and Israel has been seriously strained, with the Obama Administration winding up at odds with Israel on several fronts. So what makes this tiny country so very vital to America? First of all, it is their location. As you look at the map, it becomes quite obvious Israel is strategically vital to American security interests. With Iraq and Iran in their neighborhood, as well as, Syria, Israel is in the middle of a powder keg. One of the areas Israel has had extreme differences with the Obama Administration on, has been the Nuclear Deal with Iran.  Allowing Iran to obt...
