Have We Forgotten That First Christmas?

Image
Jay Leno had a segment on The Tonight Show several years ago when he was the host. The segment was called "Jaywalking" and he would ask everyday Americans some basic questions and the responses were rather astounding at times. It made for a fun comedy bit and also a reality check on how our republic had slipped to new lows in common sense and intelligence on numerous topics. One wonders if you asked everyday Americans about that first Christmas what kind of replies you would receive. My guess is it would be highly entertaining and enlightening no doubt. A recent Pew Research Center poll found 46% of Americans say they celebrate Christmas as primarily a religious (rather than cultural) holiday.  That is down from 51% just four years ago. Even more interesting, 56% of American adults say religious aspects of Christmas are emphasized less in American society today than in the past, though relatively few are bothered by this trend. Just for a refresher, Santa Claus wasn'

Who Was The Real Winner In Alabama?

Image
Yes, Democrat Doug Jones defeated Judge Roy Moore in the special election this past week in Alabama. One would assume that Jones and the Democratic Party were the big winners and that President Trump and Judge Moore were the big losers. If you listened to the mainstream media and the political elites that would be the general consensus. But that is not the best analysis. No, the real winner in Alabama was the weaponizing of allegations to tar and feather an innocent man. There is a difference between allegations and evidence. There were numerous allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct thrown at Judge Moore but little signs of any real solid evidence. Unlike in a court of law, in the High Court of Public Opinion you are considered guilty until proven innocent. That becomes a far more difficult threshold for an accused person to overcome when the media runs out a plethora of accusers and pundits to infer you are guilty as charged. Yes, in this court, jumping to conclusions is

Will This Shot Across The Bow Reverberate Throughout Washington?

Image
It was a bad day if you were Sen. Mitch McConnell and the establishment Republicans in Washington. The voters in Alabama voted overwhelmingly for Judge Roy Moore over Trump-backed Luther Strange. Strange was appointed to fill the vacant United States Senate seat previously held by Jeff Sessions when Sessions was offered the position of United States Attorney General. McConnell and the establishment Republicans poured boatloads of money into Alabama to get Strange back to Washington only to flush it all down the toilet. The conservative voters of Alabama soundly rejected business as usual and took a flyer on Judge Moore to shake things up. Even worse news, to add insult to injury, earlier in the day Sen. Bob Corker decided he would not seek another term as the junior Senator from Tennessee. Whether he saw the writing on the wall for 2018 and the midterms or whether he just had enough of the job and the headaches, he leaves an opening for a real conservative statesman to fill his

Will Goodell's Ideology Trump Sound Business?

Image
The NFL has been the goose that keeps laying the golden eggs for many years now. It surpassed baseball long ago as the premier sport and America's favorite pastime. With the Colin Kaepernick story continuing to make news and several players and teams kneeling or refusing to honor the United States flag and national anthem, the NFL is finding itself in murky waters. Commissioner Goodell hasn't helped matters and by standing with the players and calling out President Trump he has aided in alienating the fans even more. Goodell is a progressive and thus that ideology overrides what is best for business and the fans. When ideology trumps business, more often than not it becomes the death knell for that business. Very rarely do businesses overcome that. Chick-fil-A was an exception to this back in 2012 when they got into the same-sex marriage debate. The progressive movement targeted Chick-fil-A and tried to shut them down but were surprised to find the conservatives and the si

Why Do Progressives Oppose Choice?

Image
A good friend of mine sent me a link to a piece the other day and it made me think. In the piece it mentioned school choice. I began to think about choice in a variety of major issues and it became clear to me that progressives oppose choice in everything except in the case of abortion. From school choice and vouchers, healthcare, guns and the right to carry, and even in everyday life and what a person eats and drinks, the progressive crowd is against choice. I wondered why that is. I then thought further and believe it's because choice is empowering. Progressives believe in controlling people from the cradle to the grave, if they allow your mother to keep you and give birth to you in the first place. So let's look at a few major issues and highlight this a bit more. The Founding Fathers were very clear in writing the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution. "The right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." It is straightforwa

Life, Liberty, And The Pursuit Of Happiness

Image
Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. Three very unique words intricately woven into The Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson didn't just pull these words out of thin air. He had a distinct purpose in choosing these particular words. It is important to note that these "unalienable rights" are not given to us by government but are endowed by God, our Creator. Our republic was established by our founding fathers to allow each individual to live life in freedom and pursue happiness in whatever ways they saw fit. Unfortunately, over time, we have seen these particular unalienable rights infringed upon more and more by a growing government interference in our lives. There is a certain segment of our republic who don't believe in life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. They believe in death, tyranny, and the pursuit of misery. Instead of freedom and liberty they aim for chaos, anarchy, fascism, socialism, and communism. Make no mistake, there is an i

When Is Enough, Enough?

Image
So politicians sold their constituents a bill of lies to get elected again. Stop the presses, I know. Same old, same old. That is the normal reaction by most people in our republic. The question of the day is, when is enough, enough? In case you hadn't heard, seven Republican senators voted against a "Clean Repeal" of Obamacare on Wednesday in the United States Senate. Six of the seven did a flip-flop on repealing the imploding fiasco that is Obamacare. Those six senators are Sen. John McCain of Arizona, Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio, Sen. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee, Sen. Dean Heller of Nevada, Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, and Sen. Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia. The seventh senator was Sen. Susan Collins of Maine. She voted against repeal of Obamacare back in 2015 as well. Here are the strong and eloquent words of Sen. John McCain back in 2015: https://www.mccain.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/2015/12/floor-statement-by-senator-john-mccain-supporting-obamacare

The Whitewashing Of History

Image
Jefferson Davis and Robert E Lee might be a bit miffed if they were alive today. The City of New Orleans has decided to remove their statues. Why you ask? The city officials see these statues not as historical markers from the Civil War, but as markers to slavery and racism. Mayor Mitch Landrieu said: "We have not erased history. We are becoming part of the city's history by righting the wrong image these monuments represent and crafting a better, more complete future for all our children and for future generations." But are they crafting a better and more complete future? Aren't they erasing and whitewashing an era in American history that needs to be remembered and learned from? So what is history? Simply stated, history is the study and record of past events. It carries no prejudices. It is a complete compilation of facts, figures, and people who lived before us. History should be purely objective. Unfortunately, depending on who is writing the history bo

The Murky Swamp Of Washington

Image
When voters from "Fly Over Country" came out of the woodwork last November to cast a ballot for Donald Trump and a change of course, little did they realize how murky and dangerous the swamp in Washington DC really was. They knew that Mr. Trump would more than likely hit some fierce opposition from the Democrats and maybe some of the establishment Republicans would bellow a bit but nobody could forsee this mess we are now wading through. It has become high political theatre and the media has kept it fully charged and continued to stoke the flames of discord and resistance. Through all the drama one thing is perfectly clear. The Democrats have been effective in stalling and obstructing any legislation to change course. With a special counsel now being named to head up an independent review and investigation into the Russian hacking and collusion story, the Democrats have bought themselves more time to obstruct and stall. We are headed into summertime and the real chanc

A Broken People And A Broken System

Image
One would be hard pressed to find a time in our brief history of existence where our republic was in greater danger of being destroyed. Yes, you could definitely argue that during the Civil War era our country was close to coming apart at the seams. That is a fair argument and the only one that can be cited and compared to our current precarious situation in which we sit. In a strange way, we are in a new civil war. An ideological civil war pitting self-government and self-reliance against the tyranny of a massive out-of-control central government. The American people have become slaves to the federal government. They have grown more and more dependent on the government taking care of them from the cradle to the grave. But this isn't what our founding fathers fought so hard to build. They fought to escape the chains of tyranny and oppression and establish a republic built on everyone having a right to pursue life, liberty, and happiness in whichever way they saw fit. Unfortuna

What Happened To Easter?

Image
So what happened to Easter? I know to many that might seem like a strange question. Easter arrives every spring and it is still celebrated by people throughout the world. But Easter is not what it used to be. I remember a different world than the one in which we reside today. The glow of the sun filtering through a full church Easter Sunday morning as we fellowship and worship the glory of Christ rising from the grave to defeat sin. A sunrise breakfast afterwards to celebrate with our friends and family as we rejoice in the spirit of renewal. Easter was a special holiday and ran a close second to Christmas. So where did that spirit go? My mind wanders constantly these days. I guess I am a traditionalist by most standards. I wake up most mornings and don't recognize this country and our world anymore. My memories run deep to a simpler day and age. Visions of my grandparents run through my head. Their faces and words ring louder with each passing year. I long for that yesteryear

An Intricate Russian Game Or Something More Sinister?

Image
Most magicians will tell you that the real key to being successful is getting people to look one way long enough so you can use your sleight of hand to pull off your magic act. They will tell you that it is extremely important to control and direct your audience by capturing their attention and fostering a genuine interest. Barack Obama and the Democrats seem to have taken a page or two from the magician playbook. Over the last few months, you would be hard pressed not to have heard about the Russians hacking and meddling in the election. It seems everywhere you look these days there is another news story that continues to keep the American people focused on the Russians and their supposed ties to the Trump administration. It definitely makes for exciting and exhilarating news. But like a magic act, the real story is not where the magician is directing your attention, rather it is behind the scenes and in the darkness where the truth lies. For all the hype and media buzz, the trut

The Real Danger Of The Flynn Ordeal

Image
When the news broke that Michael Flynn had resigned from the position of national security adviser, the loud cheers from those on the left were deafening. They managed to torpedo one of President Trump's closest advisers. If you listened to the mainstream media and print journalists over this incident, you would be led to believe Flynn had done something highly illegal and it was a major scandal. The old saying is, where there is smoke, there is fire. But is that true in this case? Behind every headline is a story and behind every story there is so much to talk about. So let's go beyond the headlines and the false narratives and get to the real story that should be very concerning to most Americans. The story is that Flynn made a call to Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak at the end of December. Roughly the same day or so that the Obama administration placed sanctions on Russia in relation to supposed Russian interference and meddling in the November elections. There is n

How The Left Uses History To Undermine A Republic

Image
By now, most people have heard the liberals comparing President Trump to Adolf Hitler. One can assume this is due to Trump's immigration reform policies, his stance on Muslims and Muslim refugees, his ongoing conflicts with the mainstream media and print journalism, and his campaign slogan of "Make America Great Again". The more interesting analysis is why they would exactly do this. There are a couple reasons one can conclude for this. One reason would be they are not well-versed in German history and have just a cursory knowledge of NAZI Germany and thus don't honestly know the facts and truth of history. A second reason may be that they do have a full-fledged knowledge of the NAZI's and are just playing fast and loose with the truth and facts in order to paint a false narrative in the minds of Americans. With the dumbing down of America over the last several years through our failing education system, it is quite plausible that just incurring this image of H

From JFK To Obama: A Seismic Shift In Ideology And Worldviews

Image
As we continue to see the Democratic Party move more and more to the left, it is important to put it in perspective through the lens of history. John F. Kennedy has long been a revered man among Democrats. However, he has become a man without a party. The Democratic Party has abandoned his ideology and worldview and shifted towards a more socialist platform and agenda. In the span of the last fifty years, the Democrats have moved from a president who believed strongly in cutting taxes to one who believed in raising taxes. From a president in JFK who believed in standing by your friends and having a strong military to one in Mr. Obama who has consistently stabbed our friends in the back and cozied up to our enemies. In reality, the contrast between Kennedy and Obama is a microcosm of the Democratic Party. It highlights a bigger problem that most Democrats have failed to see. That core problem is where this historical journey will lead us to. President Kennedy was a firm belie
